The Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue is a constitutional office of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the County of Mathews. The Commissioner is elected every four years and is the chief tax assessor for the locality from which they are elected. The Commissioner is responsible for maintaining real estate ownership information and for overseeing the Tax Relief Program. The Commissioner is also responsible for accurately assessing all personal property, including the discount for high mileage. Mathews County Real Estate Reassessment
The County of Mathews has finished the process of reassessing all real property. The general reassessment, which is required by law, became effective January 1, 2017. The reassessment was performed by Wampler Eanes Appraisal Group, Ltd. from Daleville, Virginia.
The Judge of the Circuit Court of Mathews County appointed a Board of Equalization, consisting of Mathews County citizens who own land in Mathews County. This board held hearings for anyone who had questions or issues with their assessment in order to discuss those issues with the Board. The board had full authority to adjust any assessments to assure a fair and equal reassessment. The length of term of this board is one year and ends on December 31, 2017.
