Mathews County Sheriff’s Office is a full-service law enforcement office which currently employs 14 full time and 6 part-time sworn law enforcement personnel. This includes one School Resource Officer serving both Thomas Hunter Middle School and Mathews High School.

Mathews County Sheriff’s Office Employment Opportunity
The Mathews County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of full-time Dispatcher and for multiple part-time Dispatchers. This position requires certification as a Dispatcher through the Department of Criminal Justice Services in Virginia. Dispatchers answer calls for service – both emergency and non-emergency and further direct the County’s Fire, Rescue Squad, and Deputies to those calls for service. Must maintain effective working relationships with county employees and community members.
Applicants should have the ability to learn and understand complex principles and techniques related to emergency communications and it’s required responsibilities. This position requires the ability to work assigned shifts to include weekends and holidays and subject to emergency callouts under severe weather or extenuating circumstances.
Applicant Requirements
- 18 years of age or older
- Comprehensive background investigation
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License
- U.S. Citizenship
