The Board of Building Appeals is a five-member body appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Members must be County residents. The Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) provides an administrative process to appeal the final decision of a local Building Official.
The owner of a structure, the owner’s agent, or any other person involved in the design, construction, or maintenance of the structure may appeal the Building Official’s/Building Maintenance Official’s decision concerning the application of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and the Virginia Amusement Device Regulations (VADR) or refusal to grant modification to the provisions of the USBC covering the manner of construction or materials to be used in the erection, alteration, repair, or maintenance of that structure.
