Volunteer Opportunities

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors is soliciting for its consideration applications of persons who wish to be considered for appointment to one or more of the following County or regional boards or commissions when appointments expire or vacancies occur:

• Board of Building Appeals
• Board of Zoning Appeals
• Community Services Board (Mental Health/Mental Retardation/Substance Abuse)
• Disability Services Board (Must have a physical or sensory disability or be a family member of a person with such disability)
• Library Board
• Parks & Rec Commission
• Planning Commission
• Social Services Board
• VA250 Committee 
• Wetlands Board
• Other Boards as needed

Eligibility, Qualifications & Application

To help evaluate and compare applicants’ eligibility and qualifications, it is requested that all applicants submit an official county application. Resumes may also be attached to the application. Boards and Commissions Applications may be obtained during normal office hours by calling 804-725-7172 or at:

Active Applications

Applications will be kept on file for one year following receipt. This is an informal solicitation of interest and the Board of Supervisors is neither obligated to appoint persons who have an active application on file nor prohibited from appointing other eligible, qualified persons.
